Additional Digital Testing (retinal imaging)
Retinal photography
High-resolution digital photography of the retina, the light-sensitive film at the back of the eye, adds a new dimension to the assessment of the health of your eyes. By allowing for a detailed examination of the nerves, blood vessels and macula (central point), it aids in the early detection of many eye conditions, including Macular Degeneration and Glaucoma.
Secure storage of the images provides the added benefit of being able to compare against past photos, enabling subtle changes to be detected. This is vital for the monitoring of early diabetic retinopathy.
Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)
OCT is the latest technology in eye health assessment, taking retinal imaging to the next level. Essentially an optical ultrasound device, OCT provides extremely detailed, high magnification 2D and 3D images of both the optic nerve and the macula. The OCT gives measurements of the size, depth and shape of these parts of the retina and uses specialised software to detect small changes over time. This information is invaluable in the early detection of both glaucoma and macular disease.
Digital tests such as Retinal photography and OCT usually attract additional fees. These will be explained to you beforehand
